Looks like the low bid electrician made a mess.
Nice work by you though.
I like to hide the greenfield as in the attached photo.

Dark
The pics are very dark. Can you lighten them up?0 -
I will try very dark basement0 -
Looks like the Sparky
blew out more than your controls... where are the lights?
Just remember what makes a transformer work- it is the smoke it contains... let that out and you need a new one.0 -
Ya, seen that happen many times before. All you can do is find a good one that has pride in his work and understands what your looking for, pay him good and use him often. Of course you dont always have control over who the custaomer hires. Always try to get pics for the scrap book before the guy messes it up. Had similer problems with the tin knockers and insulators now and then too.0 -
Most electricians
aren't used to wiring a hydronic system. I'll agree with you that it look like a rat's nest, but most hydronic installers do their own wiring; starts off ugly and after awhile, they start looking better as you improve.0 -

residental or
commercial electrician?
from what I've seen commercial guys wire more like machine tool electricians.
gotta check their work references too!0 -
NEVER
take a job where the HO provides subs... Go all or none! Oh well, HO didn't get what he didn't pay for.0 -
Sparkys and hydronics
I do my own.Did it for the Air Force for 4 years, and have done all my wireing since.
I find most electricians lacking in their knowledge of the controls and such. Many want to get out the
old roll of romex to start doing near heating appliance wireing,Wrong.don't know how many melted wires i've redone
because they used romex instead of MC flex or conduit and
Like Dan says in his book, they sell that by the roll too!

Factory Smoke
Brad,up in Alberta we call that factory smoke. It's in all circulators and controls and you're not supposed to let it out.0 -
Sparky was cheaper
"I bid the wiring but homeowner wouldnt pay me his guy did it cheaper"
Mike,
Based on the kind of work sparky did, it looks like he was probably a LOT cheaper, and did a job that was worth exactly what he charged, but not a cent more.
Sorry he screwed up an otherwise nice looking job.

Nice install there, Al. Did somebody get a lable-maker for christmas? I tell the HO I will gladly charge the normal hourly rate to come put the handels back the way I left them.
TimJust a guy running some pipes.0 -
Too Bad this sparky didn't care about his work..He shouldn't be allowed on the job.
I'm a Sparky workin for a Plumbing and Heating company. When we look at a really involved job such as yours, I,m the guy that sits in on discussions regarding the design of the system. We allow for nice wiring.
Normally a job like that with multiple pumps, sensors, etc., We end up using EMT conduits. We take pride in doin the job just like our fitters. At connections to pumps, we'll have a conduit to flex adapter for the final connections to pumps, switches, etc. Most times it ends up being cheaper in labour costs instead of trying to make long runs of bx look nice and straight and square.
Even if your guy used BX only he should have done a lot better job.
In fact, He violates the code becaause BX has to be fastened within 12" of a connection to a box, motor, etc.
This guy is NOT a professional....
Too bad ..... And such a nice job.
P.S. We have 4 Sparky's workin out of our shop. Try getting one to start with. It works really well.0 -
Unfortunatly....
now days everyone is trying to do jobs as FAST as possible. when installing at break neck speed, neatness goes out the window!
Last year our local Ferguson had a contest for "Worlds Fastest Plumber" I thought to myself, "Who wants to be the worlds fastest" I just want to do a competent job in a reasonable amount of time.
Rushing a job invites mistakes.

I second that emotion (sorrry smokey). I never let the sparkys touch the control wiring because I always have to go back, fix it, and deal with 12 ga solid wire on a 24v system. I just bid my jobs to have power, gas, and water, to be brought within three feet of the equipment; by others. Since you can't undo, just go in and strap it all together with some designer colored strap ties, maybe a few of the screw hanger type. It looks cute and professional. Get over it, make it pretty, and don't whine to the customers. Suck it up boyo. Good lookin job tho.0 -
Oh, lighten up. If you're using BX cable you're still in the Jurasic age anyway. I keep a big roll of 14/2 MC, a roto-zip, and snap-in connectors with anti shock bushings built in. Suits all codes, even SF. I could have wired the whole thing in faster than writing this note.
"everybody's crying mercy, when they don't know the meaning of the word". Wish I said that, but it was Mose Allison.0
