cubic ft. of 2\" steel pipe.
Trying to balance the venting of steam mains. 59' and 47' of 2" steel pipe on mains. Would like to know the capacity of air in these two mains so I can vent them evenly. Please let me know the formula for finding this out. I have search the archives but was unable to find my answer. Thanks for any help you can provide.0 -
Or...
or calculate the pipe's cross section area, in sq feet, (note: convert the I.D. from inches to feet first!)
Use Area = pi*(dia/2)^2 then multiply the area (in sq feet!) by the length in feet to get the volume in cubic feet.
If you calc the pipe area in cu inches, recall there are 144 sq inches per sq ft (12^2)!
If you're handy with MS Excel you could even make your own tables for various pipe (and Cu tube) sizes and schedules/weights, and perhaps even add a column for gallons (for hot water systems) in addition to cubic feet.
Or you could just buy Dan's e-book w/ everything you need!0 -
And....
(Pat) Linhardt's Field Guide to Steam Heating... combined with the Gill and Pajek booklet is well worth it.
It is (or was) available in the On-Line Store- I did not see it when I last looked though.
