This little episode has proven once again how important regular backups are!!!!

    I logged on here yesterday, apparently in the midst of the "bot invasion." Later in the day, I was doing a heat loss, and got the "blue screen of death." Upon restarting, my pc suggested running a checkdisk, which I agreed was a good idea.

    During the procedure, I noticed several files being deleted! When I restarted the pc, i was notified that my copy of windows had been altered illegally. I had to reenter the product key from my windows disk!!!! Then....I found that all of my outlook files were GONE!!! All emails, attachments, my calendar.....EVERYTHING!!!!! Fortunately I had a backup of my contacts. I was able to recreate the calendar from notes. Sheesh! A virus scan revealed six different security threats!!!!

    I have a Maxtor external HD that backs up every night. The entire HD. Did you try a link? I was logged in when the attack started, but would never open anything I am unsure of, not even all the "fwd"s my own dad sends me ! (at lease 4 a day!!!) So far, the AVG anti-virus free edition has done well for me, but I only visit a few sites regularly and only correspond with people I know.
