we have a Comet Hot Water furnace with two zones, one for the bedrooms and another for the rest of the house...We had it cleaned a little while ago by a "professional" and since then have been having problems with the furnace cutting in too often. apparently he adjusted some settings. what is the right differencial settings and what should each thermastat be set at.

The thermostats should be set wherever YOU feel comfortable.
As far as settings on your boiler, do you get your domestic hot water from the boiler? If so, tankless or indirect (meaning do you have a sorage tank for the domestic hot water?)
You may have a low limit setting on your boiler that the tech turned up. I am guessing that the main controll that sticks into the boiler is a honeywell L8124 if it is you will see 2 red knobs inside with arrows that point to numbers. A high knob which should be around 180 and then the low knob.
Another question. What was your domestic hot water performance like before the change and what is it like now?
