  • Our local wholesaler

tells us it'll take weeks to get the 2.5" to 4" ProPress jaw & crimp rings for our beastie. That's too long to wait because the job must be completed during the school's holiday break. If any of you have a source for faster tool supply, I'd sure appreciate the help.

No Internet at home for weeks now :( So, if you don't get a reply from me, it's because I'm in Internet isolation when not at work!

  • Comcastic - not!

Finally - back on line! About 2.5 weeks ago, we had an ice storm that knocked out power to more than 10,000 homes and it took more than a week for many to get power restored. At about the same time, we lost internet access. No big deal & a few days without internet & e-mail freed me to shop. After about three days, I called Comcast & was told the problem was (after an hour on the phone) outside in their network. Over the past several weeks, I've called back three times and each time told it was a widespread outage. On the outside chance it was our cable-modem, I asked them to check it once again & once again, was told the modem was fit as a fiddle. But, would we mind them stopping by if the problem persisted? Nope.

So, Christmas morning the phone rings. Not family - it was Comcast wanting to stop by to check the modem! No, we're celebrating the holiday with family. So, yesterday they send out a dude who called me to ask which device was the cable-modem! Long story short, we're back on line with a new modem.

A huge mega-thanks to you all for your help and extremely generous offers to share the ProPress jaws. As it turned out, the larger fittings became the hurdle and we've run out of time. It simply doesn't make sense to do this half-fast with some PP fittings and standard sweat too. So, it'll be the old reliable sweat job. The leaking piping must be replaced before Wed next week.

All this has me contemplating how efficiently the auto parts industry works. If we had such a network established, finding the fittings (and tools too) would take minutes instead of days! Supply houses could 'turn' more inventory and long delays we currently experience for materials might be greatly diminished.
