Is the fire box in good condition? Is there a piece on the floor of the boiler?

oil hot water boiler
I have this 25-30 year old oil boiler that seems to get noisier each season. the boiler itself crackles, pops and bangs, simmilar to an old gas hot water heater with sediment built up in it. what gives? I have been in the field 22 years but I repair only coommercial roof top units.I have been told there could be sediment build up?Over the last ten years the oil gun has ben replaced. The boiler is hot water not steam, how much sediment could there be? Any thoughts on this?
Thanks Dennis0 -

The fire box as best as I can see is showing its age cracks etc. Do you think the flame could be coming into contact with the cast iron walls casing the noise? There is piece on the floor. I had thought about trying to rubuild the box.
