  • Slow Leaking Heating Pipe - what to do?

    Hi,

On Xmas eve we discovered a small leak in our basement on an elbow which is right up against a floor joist and near electrical as well. I went to Home Depot and bought some epoxy stuff which has not helped. I have some questions: :)

    1. If I try to do this myself, I'd want to isolate this zone (1 of 3) and drain it, correct? How would I do this and then refill it?

    2. This joint is right up against a floor joist, and we'd be sweating pipe against 100 year old wood. I'm thinking of using flexible plastic piping to connect from area to area, this way I'd be in areas that were easily accessible. Where would I get this stuff?

    3. I've called our plumber and he' not returning our call. Would the heating company be as adept at this type of thing?

    Thanks!

    Jon

  • Thanks very much. He's on the way!

And that's my plan, because if I trace the pipe 5' in either direction, it's free and clear and easy to cut.

    Thanks, I appreciate your help.

    Jon
