oil vs. mod con lp boiler

I'm roughing in a renovated home from dwv to heat, so the home will be built with the new energy codes in mind, hopefully.

Natual gas is not locally available so my choices are a traditional oil boiler, using a buffer tank for smaller heating loads to reduce short cycling or a mod con propane fired boiler also using a buffer tank for those days where the outdoor reset creates a small btu demand.

Here's my question. I know that gallon for gallon you get more btu's from oil heat compared to lp. So if you comared a traditional oil fired boiler to a standard lp fired boiler it would be more cost effective to run oil. However would a mod con lp boiler due to its improved efficency and design out wiegh the higher costs of fuel.

In addition the home owner could run thier appliances as well as their heat with lp and have only one buried tank with fewer chances of any enviormental problems.

If oil is your preference for heating -

then I would highly recommend looking at the Viessmann Vitola. It approaches modcon efficiencies in a sturdy and robust package that handles low heat load (eg low flows) extremely well. It is IMO - the best deal if considering a new oil fired boiler. And if LPG is used for cooking then a direct vent fireplace could also be considered for those times of electrical outage.

    what about

    the dryer and stove?

some people really like cooking on a gas stoves compared to an electric. if they are big hot water users take that into account also.
