I read where the film is on the inside pane away from accessibilty. so how was the retro done on that big house you showed? adding an extra inside pane? surely not all new windows?

how about retrofitting big sliding doors?

sorry if I missed the post of explanation.

I could see this working good with an occupancy sensor, I'm assuming the windows can heat rather quickly?

Why would you rule out new windows? I could be wrong but I think that this is the only way to do the retrofit application.

Sliding doors could be done but on the inoperable pane not the functioning one.

What say ME?

newer houses

seems the house in the post was fairly new, lots and lots of money in them windows, can't see replacing them, a third new pane would be even more efficient.

Because just another normal pane wouldn't have changed the heat loss that much or addressed that projects performance issues.

Double pane complete retrofit..

The house on the hill got a full and complete glass replacement. In order to retain the ETL approval, the energized glass MUST be inaccesible to human touch, hence the requirement of double glazed. Even their mirror is double glazed, which is really not a bad thing because if it were single glass, the back loss to the wall would be more significant.
