Are hot water and steam radiators interchangable?

We have purchased an old home that is missing many of its steam radiators. It is a one pipe steam system. There seems to be a shortage of used one pipe radiators on the used market in St.Louis MO area but plenty of used hot water and two pipe steam radiators. Can I use these for a one pipe system by plugging the extra hole and drilling and tapping in a vent port? Are there any other considerations?

Yes you can
just make sure you use the right size pipe connection to the radiator. This may mean you have to remove and replace a bushing, which can be difficult, but it's the right way.
