Bradford White Water Heater w/Power Vent

I have a 10 yr old 70 gal water heater and have recently replaced the pressure switch since I was having issues with the call for heat. It started acting up again and the burner would not kick-in after hot water usage.

Is there another part which may also have to be replaced as the power vent motor runs a long time (up to an hour) after the request for hot water?

  • Sound like you may need an igniter

look inside and see if you can see it glowing on a call for hot water. If not then check to see if you have 120 VAC to the igniter if yes and the igniter does not glow you need a new one.

I'm not an expert on BW but a lot of these power venters have a diaphram prover switch on the blower to ensure it's running b/f the gas valve can open. Your switch may be shot. Should be a tube coming off the vent somewhere going to a little round plastic thingy with wires going down to the gas valve? If your blower is running you can sometimes jumper the prover wires & see if the thing fires. Just make sure you don't just leave the jumper in & not replace the switch if it's bad.

Model no.? You may have a defective spill/purge switch in the venter housing.
