Forced Heating vents knocking

We have forced heat. Our house was built in 1978. It is a two-story. Our basement is unfinished. In one room on second floor, we can hear knocking in the vents only in the winter with the heat on. Is there anything we can do about this? It is driving our son crazy and thus us, trying to convince him to just ignore it and SLEEP at night. Help, please!

is it
related to the heat coming on and the ducts warming up? Ducts expanding when warming can knock. They only thing I can think of is to try to pinpoint the source and try to correct whatever is causing it.0
