Oil Line Problem?

Rick W.
Rick W. Member Posts: 30
Got cash oil delivery yesterday - just noticed chilly house; burner tripped off, reset, sputter and off again. Carefully dropped filter housing to check filter condition and it looks decent but cannister had nearly no oil in it. I suppose oil line is plugged or could it be pump failure? Tank is in ground nearby. I will try to blow out line towards tank with air compressor. Any suggestions or SOP would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds like you ran out of oil and it needs to be bled. An empty canister is a sure sign of no oil coming from upstream.

Thanks for replies! Blew air back to tank; bit of a heating layman here, did not think of check valve possibilities but heard distinct gurgling out in tank - presume it clear. Will head back down(trap door - old place) to bleed and proceed. Got the wood stove cranking now too - just in case bleeding comes up short.

    Oil Line

Thanks Ed and Ken for input. After bleeding she fired right up. That burner had been running after the oil delivery - how come empty oil canister? Stirred up sludge? I will say, while bleeding, that oil looked quite murky for awhile(three reset cycles). Is that unheard of? Anyhow, the ol' 99FRD rides again!

    Has it had

Has it had it's annual service this year? It should be done yearly.

    sounds like

tank was very near empty, filling stirred up the sludge and it temporarily blocked the tank's firematic valve, hence the near empty filter canister & need to prime.
