Gas Burner and Blower Fan do not work together...

The S8610U is a spark ignition control module not hot surface ignition. The igntion module has noting to do with fan timing, it sounds like you are going into high limit the fan is coming on resetting the limit and then both are working right. Does this blower come on with a timer so many secs. after ignition, you might have to time it, most are about 60 sec after ignition.

Gas Burner and Blower Fan do not work together...
I just replaced the igniter in my TempStar 5000 Natural gas furnace. The original unit was a S8600M and the replacement unit is S8610U. The old unit used the 24V (GND) and 24V connectors for the WHITE and BLUE wires. The directions for the new module tell me to use the TH-W (OPT.) connection for the BLUE wire hook-up. Now the burners light and run for about 2 minutes but the fan never comes on. Then the burners go out, and the blower fan comes on. After about 15 seconds, the burners re-light and run with the fan for another Cycle. The blower control module is about 6 months old. I have already adjusted the FAN-ON and FAN-OFF DELAY features on the Fan Control Module. Any ideas???0 -
did you by any chance reverse the polarity on the wires that are powering the hot surface ignitor? if you don't have a flame sensor then the flame wants to be read through the ignitor and those wires are reversed you essentially don't have a proper flame signal and the unit will shut down after about 15 seconds and (depending on the tab you put in the control) will or will not relight itself after trial for ignition0 -
Burner/Blower Cycle...
No, I checked, re-checked and made sure again...
I labeled the original ignition module wire code with a sharpie before I removed it. The wires are all right...0 -
Burner/Blower Cycle...
I just replaced the S8610U unit with a S8600M unit from the downstairs system. The Fan/Blower and system operation are back to normal. Does this mean that the 8610 is NOT a direct replacement (As is specified) for the 8600??? Or, do I need some other changes to use this model???0 -

Apparently,,,
My suggestion is for you to stop messing with things that can blow up, burn your house down and/or kill you. Chances are you won't catch any of us trying to do YOUR job, why do you think you should be doing ours? No wait, I know that answer. Forget I asked.0 -
Thanx for your "Help"...
FYI...
I switched the new and old units, same wiring, now they both work. Apparently the "Same" (Upstairs & Downstairs) units are not wired the same. They were installed by a professional...0 -
Bill, the S8610U is an
intermittent pilot system it does not work with HSI.0 -
I see,,,
So you want to take something that requires training and experience, DYI to save a few bucks and when it doesn't work you want to come here looking for help. So let's say we try and help you, things go wrong, and you burn your house down. Now you'll blame us? If you read the instructions I'm sure you'll find somewhere it says, "Must be installed by a qualified technician" and if you read further you'll see Tim is right when he says that the new universal ignition control can be configured to replace hundreds of different style modules. Even I have a tough time figuring it all out but because I have the training and experience I have always been able to do so without a hitch.0
