Do you have 2 supplies & 2 returns? If so, I would pump them each separate and use no balance valve. They can be controlled to come on together with one stat many different ways...

    Gravity conversion

Just a couple ?'s as I go through the planning for this. My boiler will be a Lochinvar and I'm going to pipe it a recommended in Dan's book, P/S and a low head pump for the S. There will be an IDWH. Should I put some type of balance valves in the supply or return of the gravity system? Would a B&G flow control ( you know the cast valve that's like a weighted check valve) work to add some protection against possible flow during the IDHW operation? My piping flow will be the two returns tied together, then to the P/S connection to the boiler, thru to the Air vent/Xtank/fill valve combo, to the pump inlet and out to the two supply pipes tied together. The supply and returns are 1 1/2. Any ideas, comments, criticisum is welcomed. Best Regards, see you in Denver. blackoakbob

    Over pump......

Thanks for the reply, Timco. I just remember that there was some discusion of over pumping causing trouble in temp control. At a later date, I would like the owner to either add Danfos controls or home run the outlets and zone the basement, main and basement. But, yes I could split the two supplies and run a pump on each. The owner is an electrician he may want to attempt to zone it that way. Best Regards, blackoakbob.
