Well the boiler water PH was higher than I thought. I boiled some boiler sample water on the stove and it did foam up so I fixed that and gave it one more good long skim and that seemed to help for now.

Help with boiler corrosion inhibitor.
I just want to know from the experts if adding a corrosion inhibitor to the boiler water on my Weil McLain PEG 40 is a good idea.
The boiler is new and on its second season. Last year I skimmed the boiler for a month before I finally got the water clean and the water level stable (oil in water). Now this season the boiler water has gotten very dirty with lots of corrosion in it. The water also sat in the boiler all summer so I know that didnt help. The boiler water PH is 8-8.5 and I skimmed it only once this season to get most of the crud off the surface. There is no makeup feed water going into It (no automatic feeder) so I know the problem isnt oxygenated water. I also dont want to keep flushing the water out of it because that is not good for corrosion either.
I remember the old snow man I had before this always had a clean sight glass and the water ran clean after the initial opening when I flushed out the low water cutoff. The water in the sight glass of the new boiler is very dirty and it doesnt matter how many times I clean it. So whats going on here? What do you guys do about this? What am I doing wrong or is this just how the new boilers are?
