Steam system modification question

I looked at a one pipe steam system today that has not worked properly for a couple of years I was told. Someone removed 2 radiators from the kitchen and installed cast iron baseboard in their place. They repiped from the boiler to and from the new baseboard but used 1/2" pipe and went overhead with the supplies and added traps on the return side of each one and then back to the boiler. The pressuretrol was set to cut out at 4psi. There is other work to be done on the boiler but I want to turn down the pressure and was not sure if there would be a problem with the cast iron baseboards if pressure was reduced. I'm also not sure why the traps would have been added. I will be back there next week and would like to make necessary changes to restore comfort. They say that the baseboards don't heat the kitchen like the radiators did and I'm sure part of the reason is because there is less output from them than there was from the radiators. Any help would be appreciated.
