    Rapid loud Venting

Cleaned the pigtail yesterday on the boiler.
I noticed that the venting of my second floor radiators has become very noticible. I have the pressure set at
    .5 in with a 1.5 diff.

What kind of rad vents do you have? On colder days when the cycle is longer and boiler pressure actually reaches at most 1 psi you will hear them venting in the beginning and end while the rad pushes out the last of it's air content. These you will notice most with heat timer varivalves. Other vent makes have a fast on/off release of air that will end with the pin slamming shut upon re-pressurizing from steam temps. It's normal to hear a small amount of air released but not a very large amount where they will hiss. My guess is if your mains are venting properly according to their size then the rad and it's piping that you have is too large for the vent that is connected to it. Having a steam system and seeing it at its best and worst I would say you will always hear some sort of air released depending on each cycle but not enough to where it is blowing hard and loud. With one pipe steam a little air whoosh here and there is normal.

    Daniel,
I am wondering if their vented properly.
One side is a little over 50 feet (has two gorton #1).
One side is about 30 feet (also has two #1)..
It will take from 3-5 min to fill the large main with steam.

With a 50 foot main I would use a Gorton #2. A Gorton #1 on the shorter main should be fine, two won't hurt, but the balancing is key to both mains before the radiators receive their equal and fair portion of steam. After this you will find it much easier to focus on the radiator venting capacities. There is a venting capacity chart for sale in the store section that will iron out these details. Some will offer this info free of charge although its good to support those that have done the footwork for the benefit of this great resource. Gorton d's have a very fast venting rate. Are these radiators connected to the 50' main? If so the increase in venting of the long main will most likely solve your issue.
