Brad,

Thank you for the quick response. I will suggest this to the architect. Merry Chistmas! - DF

    Flashing

I have project where I need to terminate two boilers through a steep (15/12) slate roof. I will be using 3" concentric kits. I am having problems finding a suitable flashing. What do you plumbers do when you have to terminate a vent stack through a steep roof? Any suggestions would be most appreciated. -DF

    Cricket

    Hi Dan.

Flashing that steep usually has a cricket or tie-in gable from the vertical back to the roof plane. This acts as a wedge to force any run-off and ice to the sides of the vertical projection.

If you see a chimney on such a roof, chances are that they already have something like that to get you an idea.

SMACNA has a publication on architectural sheet metal you may find helpful and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) does also, I believe.

This includes what are often copper or lead-coated copper or terne-plate outer shrouds to conceal plastic vent piping. Many options within those design features.

Ago I had to penetrate a slate roof with two plumbing vents. I had a roofing contractor make the penetrations and flash them. I did not want to buy a new roof!

makes a combo galvanized rubber neoprene flashing and they have differing pitches on them. We recently went through a 12/12 roof with a 4" concentric (6-1/2" outer pipe) and they had the flahsings to do the job. It's a stone tile roof, so we have to double up on the flashings.
