gas hot water heat boxes making noise?

When my gas hot water furnace kicks on and the heat boxes in the house start warming up they start making banging noises and I can hear water running through them.
I've had this fifty year old ranch for 5yrs now and have never had this problem before.
I have tried to bleed the heat boxes. When I bleed them a liitle air comes out and then a steady stream of water. I still have the problem. Any comments? -james

    Heat boxes...

    Are they:

    - a cast iron radiator in each room? (w/ metal or wood covers)?

    - recessed (into the walls) radiators or convectors w/ louvered metal covers?

    - short sheet metal covered baseboard "convectors" around the (usually outer) walls with a fined tube inside?

-short baseboards, but cast iron, not sheet metal (less common)?

    - a boiler w/ hot water piped in to a cental box w/ a blower, and hot air ducts out to the rooms of the house/building ("hydro-air" -- less common)?

    -other?

Also if it's hot water or steam heat it's a boiler, if it's hot air, it's a furnace -- but it's common for people to call "boilers" "furnaces" so don't worry about it.

Can you take some digital pictures of the radiators/baseboards/heatboxes and of the boiler and post here?

circulator seems to be working also.

Hot water systems are generally completely (or at least nearly so) silent.

While the circulator seems to be working, it might not be moving sufficient water with the "banging" noises being that of small steam bubbles being produced inside the system. After the boiler has fired for three or four minutes, feel the supply pipe just as it exits the boiler. If it's significantly hotter than supply pipes further down the system, then for some reason flow is likely inadequate.

I believe it's time to call a pro.
