We recently took over a condo building with a radiant heat system. One of the problems we found were that several of the units were not getting enough heat due to black sludge (what do you call that stuff anyway?) accumulating in the pipes. I've managed to flush out all of the loops except one loop that is completely plugged. I've even tried putting compressed gas in the loop up to 225 psi but I couldn't budge the blockage. Anybody have any thoughts on what I can try next?

Try alternating the direction of your application of pressure. First through the supply, then the return.
Leave the pressure on the loop overnight. That usually works for me.
I believe the black sludge may be called magnetite. Dunno.

Please do not use pressure higher than the tubing manufactuer recommends.
