did you try replacing the vent? you can try an adjustable quick vent and set it down lower to possibly quiet it down.

    thanks for the site/help. i live on top floor of 7 story apt building in nyc. hot pipe that comes up from basement ends in my apt. loud hissing wakes me up and is louder than tv. one of three pipes in apt-another in bathroom, one in kitchen. neighbors on same floor have same setup. but mmy pipe is so much louder in my place. there's a steam release on the top of pipe. anything i can do to diminish the loud hissing/sputtering? many thanks for a hopefull good nite sleep. phil
