two-pipe steam pressure

I live in a six-story condo building with a two-pipe steam system. I have no technical training but am interested in the steam system, and the gauge on the boiler reads between 5 and 6 PSI when the boiler is operating.
Is this too high, and could it be adjusted downward without any adverse consequences? The only maintenance done on this system is at start-up and shut-down in the fall and spring. To my knowledge the building's radiators heat reliably.
I have no knowledge on whether or not the system is adequately vented.

Dan has written a few books about steam systems that you'll find very interesting. Written for the professional and home owner alike. As far as the pressures go, there is no reason in my mind to have a small building like yours maintain more than 2-3 PSI.0 -
Steam Pressure
Many two-pipe steam systems work well on 8 ounces of pressure. Tell us more about the system. If you can lower the pressure, and reduce the burner run time, you save.0 -
Fred's right
if they have to build 6 pounds to get the system to heat, something's wrong. You should be able to heat that building on a few ounces.
