Good job Ron! Looks professional as always. Did you have Soundgarden playing in the background, while on the project? Nothing like "Limowreck" at 8:00 AM to get things rolling in the right direction. Just curious, what problems have you had with other indirects? TIA

  • This install was in Birchwood Park , Jericho , NY

Beautiful neighborhood with million dollar homes on 1/4 acre plots . And almost always , this is the condition of the boiler area .

It was time for this Federal to retire . The homeowner made a wise decision , what with the price of oil .

We've tried many types of indirects , and for some reason they don't last too long around here . This is sorta a last ditch effort , the stone lined tank .

The instructions say the minimum size to pipe the coil is 3/4 . But it doesn't say to upsize or how much of a benefit that would be . That stone lining makes the tank real heavy . Some built in handholds on the side would be a nice touch - the smooth jacket and top are hard to grab . The flat bottom makes it hard to level . The same levelling legs that came on the Alliance G would work wonders on this indirect . But it seems to heat up pretty fast compared to other indirects we install . I hope they last long into my retirement . Humping these out of basements is not going to be fun .

    That which is

hanging on the wall in the background purports to be "art". I see the real art in the corner.

Nice work as always, Ron! They give you more space than usual and you refuse to use it- You will never go soft that way.

You are the Chuck Norris of boiler installs!

    Backards

Pump away,(the war department pulled me away before I could finish my thought) I can see why you piped it the way you did. One supply main and you guys always zone with pumps. You could have saved one pump and used two zone valves and been able to pump away with no hassels though. .02 . bob

There was an error rendering this rich post.

    Retirement????

OH MY..They forgot to tell you Ron, you can never retire. You'll be 85 and humping one of those water heater's out...:) Nice job per the norm... Glad to see your staying busy during all of this warm weather.
  • Mark

I really appreciate your kind words , buddy . This one was installed by Sal , Kenny and myself . These guys really have great attention to detail . Couldn't do any good work without good helpers like them .

    Thanks again Mark .
  • I've been posting here and there

I can't believe how busy it's been . Usually there's a holiday lull , but the weather snap ramped things up a notch . Thanks alot Dave .
  • I'll take either

to be associated with . I got a signed autograph from Chuck when I was a kid after he performed stunts at the local mall . Been a fan ever since . And Clint ? Who wouldn't have this guy in their favorite 5 actors ? How many times did he spit chaw on the dog and bad guys in Josey Wales ?

    Thanks Brad and Mark .
  • Soundgarden

Now you're talkin' my music ! Although I don't think the homeowner would appreciate Loud Love or Hands All Over playing full blast ( the only way to play 'em ) .

We've had alot of failures with a few brands of stainless indirects . Of course it isn't the indirects fault if they fail due to real high chloride levels ( which I believe alot of Long Island has ) . We switched to glass lined a few years ago and for the most part , so far so good . Stone lined seems like the next logical step foward though .

    Thanks Ross
  • To be politically correct ....

scraaarrrewwwww that , I'm ready to retire now !!!!!!

I want to be able to walk semi-erect for at least a few year before I croak . MegaMillions , here comes my 5 bucks . Daddy needs a break ....... for a few decades .

    Thanks lchmb .
  • Good eyes

Yep , I brought using zone valves up . We're trying to consolidate all our equipment , so circs it is .

    Thanks alot Bob .

    nice

longevity does seem to be the strong point of stone lined tanks. I see 20 year old Fords on solar systems often.

Those tightly finned copper coil HXers do tend to collect minerals and sediment. performance will drop like a rock, or stone :) It's nice they made them removable.

The high temperature boiler systems are more of a lime up problem then solar driven ones do to the temperatures.

Not for the weak of back, are they!
