Venting Runtal Wall Mount Steam Rads
Steamhead (in transit)

use a straight vent. Hoffman makes the #41 to complement the angle #40, and all the Gorton radiator vents are available with straight shanks.
The reason the optimum vent location is low on the radiator is because steam is lighter than air, and will rise to the top.

Venting Wall Mount Rad
I am looking to install a Runtal Steamview wall mount panel radiator from SteamRadiators.com into my one pipe steam system. They have told me that their customers have successfully mounted these rads vertically (like a ladder) instead of horizontally. This works ideally for my space but I have a question about the venting.
The vent hole in this orientation will point up. The adjustable air vent I have is a side mount vent from a traditional rad. I am assuming that I cannot mount this vent sideways and have it function properly. Am I wrong here?
I am having trouble getting a straight answer as to whether I should use some sort of elbow to allow the existing vent to be oriented correctly (if I can find one) or if there is a proper adjustable vertical air vent for radiator application. The vertical vents I see are all labeled as for convectors, they seem similar but I a do not see adjustability on them and I am not sure they are applicable.
Can anyone out there help.
Thanks, Bob0 -
Even when you mount it the regular way....
The vent is really not where you want it....halfway down, but they do work. Add a 90 degree elbow. Mad Dog

Thanks Mad Dog
Can you shed a little light onto the downside of not having the vent halfway down the radiator.0
