Takagi + dryer lint

Went to survey a Takagi install yesterday (not installed by us). The mech contractor has quit - can't resolve the problem - told the HO's they'd have to reset the little rascal whenever they want heat!

It's in a dedicated hydronic set-up. TK-jr mod. Taco 009 primary loop with a Taco rad mix block on secondary for the rad floor loops.

3/4" Wardflex hidden in walls, but looks to be about 15'.

However, the dryer sits next to and vents INTO this small mech room space. Lint is everywhere! TK-jr has no been dismantled to clean the underside of its burner rack or to check the inducer fan. Constant lock-outs as blower modulates downward.

1st steps - dismantle & clean-up & getting the dryer vent hard-piped to the outdoors!

    Dryer lint & laundry chemicals...

are murder on any hvac product. The chlorine and the detergent dust raises havoc with combustion gear and the lint plugs up everything. The dryer can starve the combustion appliances of combustion air, and potentially may cause a CO problem. There just is no reason for the laundy machines to be in the same space with ANY combustion or HVAC eqquipment.
  • Takagi says....

Takagi has offered the owner a refurbished direct vent TK-JR for a small fee - a very generous offer on their part. I told the owner we're not touching the work without venting the (electric) dryer to the great outdoors.
