Ive got a 80% slant fin boiler with flame impingment

Ive got an 80% NG Slant fin at 6500 ft. had the tech out to clean the HX today. The home owner finished the basement and didnt shut off the boiler. Boiler had 1/3rd of the HX impacted with construction dust. boiler is 3 years old, no problems to date with system. After my tech started the system up, after the cleaning of HX, the flame picture of the burners was impinging on 9 of the 13 burners. I had him clean the burners and have confidence that they are clear. the gas valve had 8.5 " W/C at the inlet side, and 3.6" W/C on the manifold side. He had to down fire the manifold side to 2.4" W/C to get the flame to lay on the burners. We have 860 btu gas out here and the orifice's on the manifold are .51. In the manual for the Sentinel Boiler the orifice size for 6000' is a .49, is this discrepancy causing me impingment problems? Thanks to all, and merry christmas.

  • Change the orifi...

    That's plural for orifice, no?

I've run into that numerous times, and changing the orifi' to the properly adjust btu content (they think we have 1000 btu gas up here) will take care of the CO generation problem. Good catch Matt.

Have you and or your employees taken the NCI CO course put on by Jim Davis? If not, I would STRONGLY recommend it.

Google National Comfort Institute for a schedule.

Did anyone measure to verify there is enough air for combustion? :( With a newly finished basement it never hurt's to check...
