Waste Oil Boiler job with Infloor and Snowmelt (Job Pics)

beautiful work Paul!

What is the snowmelt control you are using? any "soft start" features, or is it just boiler protection, manual enable, etc?

This was our first waste-oil boiler job

I debated with which waste-oil boiler to go with but we eventually chose an Omni.

This 14,000 sq/ft facility is an auto-body shop that has a main bay and drive thru estimated bay as one zone, and office zone, and later in the process, the owners wanted an "Inexpensive Snowmelt" option.

I had some very good pricing on VSIM controls and decided to have the main bay be a "Siggy-Mini-Tube" system with a 1" injection line feeding 2 sets of reverse return manifolds. The 2nd office zone is just a standard VSIM zone, but due to it's smaller size, I wanted to keep it seperate from the main bay zone. The 3rd mix station is the snowmelt where the VSIM pump is on the snowmelt return leg extracting heat from the brazed plate HX. (The snowmelt is a manual on/off system but does give boiler protection)

I love that these waste-oil boilers want 180°F minimimum inlet so that they burn clean. It is pretty cool to watch the 2" boiler loop (with buffer tank piped in series on the supply) to ramp up in temp slowly, then as it gets to the 180°F inlet, the variable speed pumps start to ramp up.

Matt J did ALL of the piping, I did the low voltage and control wiring, we both muttered colorful metaphors when we couldn't get the waste-oil pump to draw, and muttered even more when we discovered the impeller shaft had separated from the "Flex-Coupler".

Omni's tech assistance leaves everything to be desired in my opinion, but the boiler seems to do a good job.

    Promix 201 VSIM

It's not really meant to be a dedicated snowmelt control, but the VSIM with the plate exchanger allows a lengthy slab warm up time. The system is truly a manual on/off system with a "lighted-SPST" switch.

Here's the Visio. Check out the control wiring on pg2. It doesn't seem to be uploading, check your email.

    Work of art!

That panel of cirs, controls, vents, tanks, and piping is a work of art.

I hope it works as good as it looks, and I bet it does!

There was an error rendering this rich post.

    Thanks Al....

It is working really well. Being our first waste-oil boiler and my first boiler with a burner-gun, I am seeking advice on set up for combustion. The manual really states to rely on visual parameters of flame but I know that my eyes do not really qualify as a combustion analyzer.

The factory hasn't called me back yet but I was thinking of logging into Oil-tech Talk with Alan for some of his advice.

It is working and melting snow. That picture of the melted sidewalk was taken this morning after a night of freezing rain/snow.
