Water temperature in hydronic heating

Water gets to 160*-180* for BB. If you get an outdoor reset control, it will adjust the water temp based on the outdoor temp & load requirement for the actual load, not a fixed setting. You need to have a working gauge, which is something a good tech will check & fix on a yearly maint / inspection. There is an 'aquastat' with a dial or something similar that sets the water temp.

    Water temperature with hydronic heating

I'm not too familiar with hydronic heating but I bought a house that has a propane fired boiler in the basement. There is 3/4" copper piping with a continous loop that goes througout the upstairs rooms with a baseboard fin-type system. I have a Hydrotherm HC-D series type boiler.

I want to install insulation over the 3/4" piping but I'm not sure how hot the water gets. I know it's too hot to touch the pipes. The insulation I find at the home center stores says they work only up to 180 degrees F. There is a gauge on my boiler that says 70degrees F and 20PSI. I know the water is a lot hotter than that so not sure what 70degrees really means since I have the house thermostat set at 64F and the water in the pipes is too hot to touch.

Does anyone know how hot water is supposed to get in these types of systems? What would you recommend as the best insulation for these hot pipes?

    Thanks for any help.

HD foam insulation wit the peel off stick stuff should work fine.
