I will advise him to go forward with the replacment. I will tell him to find someone to test the PH of his well water. He is being deployed to Iraq soon, so thanks for helping me square away his home. THANK YOU, -Michael

red and blue pipes
My buddy lives in NY and has well water. The pipes are corroding and turning green. The contractor wants to replace about 5' of corroded piping with red and blue pipes. What are red and blue pipes and are they any good? He has an old/worn water softner. Would a new one make a difference? Thanks in advance for any information that I may pass along -Michael0 -
water test
Is this on city or town water or from a personal well source? May need to test the water to see if it is an acid condition. If the pH is too low a good acid neutralizer would help much more than a softener. My $.02 for what it is worth. Ruthe0 -
reread your post
and saw that it is well water. New England I know has very fluctuating acid conditions and Maybe NY does too. Good luck. Ruthe0 -
it's pex, and its good for that use0 -
Pex
Now very popular in NY, with the cost of copper pipes.
Red is installed on the hot.
Blue on the cold.

Naaah
those wouldn't be red and green- they'd be silver/gray, the color of duct tape!
