They send it not installed on the V8 series. I always chucked the one they sent and used one I could actually put a wrench on.
They all seem to have their qwirks, Smith is just as bad, try to put a bushing in the lower front section so you can put in a drain. You need to remove the front plate. I have come to like the Smith boiler the more I use them. They make nice steam and they run nice with a Carlin.

WM puts their Skim plug right on top of the service man switch. Guess how many of them are blocked by EMT.

    Burnham IN steam boilers

I just wanted to thank Burnham for the sxtra 1-2 hours that I spent chiseling out a plug so that I can skim a boiler. I know that they are aware of it because I have mentioned it several times and it is always "being looked into" and I know it's not just me because I have seen other people mention it here. I swear if I have to do it one more time I'm going to start installing something else. Sorry for the rant but if someone can give me a good reason for a plug that needs to come out to be that tight then I'll never complain about it again. The only thing I can think of is that somehow they make more money by doing that but it just makes NO sense to me.

I think that it's wise to install a skim pipe with a ball-valve on the skim port. Remove the valve handle and put a lightly tightened cap on the pipe. This makes future skimming real easy.

    yeah thanks for the advice

You need to get the plug out before you can put a pipe into a tapping with a valve
