Painting steam pipe

Dear All,
What is this silver paint that I keep seeing on these steam iron pipe? I'm sure my steam pipes are not galvanized, as you can see the paint brush strokes. Is it cold galvanizing paint (zinc rich)? Anything special or am I overanalyzing it? Also is there any advantage to painting the pipe verses leaving it alone?
Thanks

metallic paint (probably aluminum). The metal pigment particles tend to reduce the emissivity (heat RADIATION, not conduction or convection --so insulation is still a good thing, especially for steam) from hot objects (like steam or hot water pipes) to cooler objects.
