Loud Banging in Forced Hot Water Heat

What is one to do about banging noises from cast iron baseboard forced hot water heat? We've been living with this for 14 years. Two other zones in the house that do not have cast iron (they have newer fin style baseboard) are not noisy at all! As I get older and my sleeping gets worse this is waking me up at night! Help!

there are so many possible reasons for this. 1 have the cast iron sections be bleed. They will hold air and still heat up. 2 is there ant thing different about that zone in the controls. 3 are all the zones using the same circ. 4 why is one zone cast iron ? was it installed by some one different ? 6 what is the cast iron mounted to? are you sure that it's the baseboard banging and not the pipes or the wood creaking ?

1. The cast iron has never been bled. The only thing different in that zone from the other two is that it's cast iron, the others are plain metal fin radiators. There are 3 zones, three motors, but I believe that they're all on the same circuit. The cast iron is mounted to the wall, as are the fin style radiators. My husband thinks it's the pipes banging against the floor, but it sure sounds like it's coming from the radiators, although it does seem to be localized to the end part of the radiator. I'd really like to rid myself of this problem but don't want to go down the wrong path. Thanks for your help. Too bad your in NY. We're in MA.

Lisa:
Have you had a professional take a look at it? This sounds to me that the cause can be easily identified and fixed. Let the folks here on this site know where you are and I am sure someone will get in touch with you. I believe there is also a "find a Professional" section here.
