Vitodens Parts Availability

You need a new contractor. As a contractor we stock parts for what we sell including virtually everything for a Vitodens. Why?? because we need to be able to service our clients. We don't want you without heat if possible and can not rely on Transfer houses (formally known as supply houses)to have parts, besides even if they had it what do you do at nightime?.

It's thursday night, what part do you want?? We can probably FedEx it across the country overnight from our stock and we are only a contractor. No reason why your contractor couldn't have gotten on the phone two months ago and ordered whatever you wanted and had it sent FedEx over night if it where not in stock (which it should have been) at the wholesaler.

This is not a Viessmann problem this is a transfer house and contractor problem. You'd have the issue regardless of the boiler company. Any product needs to be supported by the contractor and wholesaler.

The local Viessmann service/install contractor here in southern Wisconsin is apparently having a devil of a time getting parts for Viessman products. We've been re-scheduling and postponing an annual cleaning/maintenance appointment for more than 2 MONTHS now.

They don't expect to need the parts but want to have them on the truck in a service pack "in case". My boiler is a Vitodens 6-24. Is this an issue nationwide or just regionally? Makes me wonder what would happen if the boiler quit and my house was getting cold.

    When hypothetical becomes reality

So - I'm letting you guys know even before I call the heating contractor. Came home to a cool house tonight. Does Viessmann have an RF connection to my boiler?

Power on, pump turning, burner won't fire, no fault codes. gas stove fed downstream from same line works fine.

    Now, we'll see what happens.

    Bad Pressure Switch

So of course it's a minor snow storm tonight too and I'm 40 miles from his shop. We did some over the phone troubleshooting and after verifying that we did indeed have system pressure (with the boiler gauge and a gauge in one of the radiant loops) I jumpered out the switch - voila, burner fires.

He will check stock and see if he needs to order a switch. So even though Ken's earlier post was deleted I'd really like to know what experience the Viessmann proponents have had with parts on this boiler model.

I've been telling everyone I bought this unit that it's the best boiler made, super efficient, incredible built-in controls, built like a tank, etc. etc. I still WANT to believe that's true after spending all that cash but maybe I was fooled?

I know you guys that love this boiler are quick to jump in when others look for suggestions on which boiler to buy, now I'd like to know what your experiences have been with operation, maintenance, and parts availability.

    Thanks,

    Scott

    I have found them responsive...

... but then again, my local supply house is but an hours drive from Warwick, RI, the local HQ. A replacement electrode wire assembly was delivered within a day or so. Curiously, the supply house never called me to tell me the part was in.

Thus, I suggest you give the folk @ Viessmann a call to see what supply houses they have had good experiences with in your area. Sometimes it's not the manufacturers fault that parts are not available. Best of luck with your Vitodens.

Thanks for the responses guys. We had a snowstorm last night so my Wildblue service was spotty and I couldn't get a reliable connection to the Wall when I tried to post a follow up.

The contractor called back right away last night but since I'm 40 miles out of the city and we had 6 inches of snow coming down we did the troubleshooting over the phone. The water pressure switch was the first thing he suggested checking (after verifying the Vitodens gauge and a secondary gauge on a loop both showed adequate pressure).

I jumped that out and it fired right off. He was going to check today to see if he has a switch in stock or not. I'm not ready to find another contractor since they are the only Viessmann folks anywhere near me but I will ask how it is that they find it so difficult to find the parts. It wasn't that we had any operating problems (until yesterday!!) but they sensibly wanted to have common parts on the truck before driving out to do the 1st annual cleaning.

I appreciate the offer of shipping parts across the country and will keep that offer in my back pocket.

    Thanks again,

    Scott

    Three and a half days?

And it still ain't up and runnin'?

And, there were no holidays, Saturdays or Sundays to delay transportation?

That's typical I suppose. But certainly nothing to brag about. You don't suppose the issue being on "The Wall" had anything to do with it only being three-and-a-half days just to get the part now - do ya?

Imagine where the cold homeowner would be had we not spoken.

    Pure conjecture. Isn't it?
