I don't see anything listed on their website but I'll give them a call on Monday.

    Johnny,

I don't know if it's on their website yet, but Capco Energy Supply is carrying a "Caleffi Hanger Kit",. It's made from unistrut and some really nice clamps.

I hope you can find it, I haven't looked yet, but have used it...and was impressed. Chris
  • Nice Work!

    Hey John,
Nice work!! A quick question on the venting of the weil mclain ultra. I've put a few in I thought the manual said only PVC for vent and intake. Looks like there is a metal pipe on the intake side of that ultra. Did they update the vent supplement?
I Don't mean to pick the pic apart, your work is how hydronics should be....
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Good catch, Mike.

It's in the HVAC contractor's scope of work to vent the boiler and he actually called Weil-McLain and got an OK to pipe the intake temporarily with stainless steel flue pipe.

Actually, WM says it's ok to pipe it permanently with stainless, but I think they meant the AL429C type with locking seams.

    A Hydraulic Separator is a...

system component we install that acts as a mixing chamber.

The "chamber/tank" has four tappings. A supply and return to the boiler; and, a supply and return to the system. The in and out pipes can have fixed or adjustable valve operation - or, variable speed circulators controlling boiler and/or system water flows - thereby allowing almost any flow rate through either, making the primary/secondary design basis, capable of huge variations.

The term "de-coupling" is used to accurately explain the nature of the device. Decouple as in: depending on how the in and out flows are controlled - allows each connected leg some meassure of independnce from each other. In short, and if you understand the "buss" concept in a computer - acts the same way as a buss. Anything may come "on or off" without much interference to each other.

In and of itself, the device is nothing more than a chamber with four holes in it - and the water inside, entering and being distributed while external devices (pumps, valves, etc.) actually do all the work of controlling what water goes where. There are no moving parts to a hydraulic separator.

Since virtually all system water must past through it, it is typically also used as a good point to capture air; and so, system air vents are placed on top.
