Make sure that all "isolation" valves are open and that the circulator is both running and moving water.0 -
Too big?
What is the size of the load compared to the output of the boiler? What is the outdoor temp when this happens? Is this an old 500lb CI hunk? Is it a manual reset (red button), or the high limit? What is the difference in temp between the supply and return pips on a zone that calls ?
Answer these questions and that might help us figure things out.

Oil or gas?
Oil, going off on reset is a combustion problem.
Does it reset with flame on, or when trying to ignite?
Flame on: check the cad cell primary and associated components
Ignition: Check things like ignition, fuel supply, solenoid valves, etc..There was an error rendering this rich post.

BOILER RESET
YOU COULD HAVE A RESTRICTED OIL LINE . PUT A VACUUM GAUGE ON THE BURNER PUMP AND WATCH WHAT HAPPENS . IF THE GAUGE GOES UP , YOUR RESTRICTED. EITHER BLOW THE LINE OUT WITH CO2. OR REPLACE IT WITH A NEW LINE .0 -
if it goes on safty
i was told years ago if a oilburner goes on safty there is something that caused it u need to b a detective and find out what is right with the system then u can see what is wrong what is the ohms resistance i have had 2 or 3 that ran 4 a day or two and went on safty yes u can start replacing parts til u get the right one but testing saves time if the ohms is over 1500 find out y also motor may have a BAD SPOT as they call it one of a dozen things royboy0 -
\"could be\"
a lot of things...seen a variety over my limited lifetime.
better to Be There and cop a visual with some tools in hand... did you say that you just bought fuel the other day?....0 -
cad cell
The first thing I did was jump the cad cell on the primary, and it ran fine so I repaced the cad cell and I haven't heard from them since
Thanks for the input guys0 -
Long time
ago, attended a training seminar for TempStar/Heil, now United Tech. First sentence from the instructor was something like, "take those jumper wires out of your toolbox."
Took his advice and soon embarked on a much more rewarding career; that is called "professional technician".
Took that jumper out of my toolbag and never looked back.
Learn how to use that volt-ohm meter and find the meaning of continuity and resistance.
Can not think of any good use for it now, can you ??
