Sizing HWB boiler for new home

Options
to size the boiler properly is by doing a heat-loss calculation. Period. Fortunately, this is pretty easy to do if you have a computer.

Click on Resources above, then Heat Loss Calcs. This will take you to Slant/Fin's site where you can download their free calc program (if you have a broadband connection) or order it on CD-ROM (if you still use dial-up- it's a hefty download). The program will run on any Windows computer running 98 thru XP and probably Vista too.

One advantage to this is you can plug in different variables such as insulation depths, to see how these would change the heat input you'd need. My advice would be to insulate, weatherstrip, caulk etc. as much as you can and use the best windows available. Then you can install smaller heating equipment and use less fuel to operate it.

sizing a hwb boiler for a new home

Can anyone assist me in sizing a new boiler for my new home? The house will have a Hot Water heater, furnance, dryer, stove, fireplace, grill(outside) possibly a jacuzzi, and total square footage of house approx 3000 sqft. I think i covered it all. Also how many zones should I incorporate if the house is a Ranch style with with approx 8 rooms, 3 baths?
