Need some opinions on boiler install.

Nice to me!

I would have opted for the self-contained flo-checks inside the circs.- as opposed to separates as shown, and perhaps been a tad neater with the excess pipe dope, but other than those two minor items, I like it a lot.

For a guy who hates everything, don't let my praise go to your head (;-o)

  • Boiler installed.

    Hi Guys,

Some gentlemen a few months back gave me some help with boiler size. I'm back to get some feedback on the install.

I chose the G115/21 with S-120 and so far so good. Plenty of hot water but I'll have to wait until it's really cold out to see how well it works then.

Below are links to some pictures of the install. I would love some feedback on the install. The boiler wasn't done by any installers that view this forum so please give your honest opinion.

If needed. I can provide more pics.

    a little messy

not to throw blows but 3 circ and there all supported by the pipe and maybe what ever is supporting the 3 /4 copper ,the wiring could be neater ,no electronic low water cutoff ,and what's that expansion tank and that little air vent doing they are just hanging up there in space,as for the indirect i usually and by code install a good quality mixing valve and is there a backflow preventor on your feed line not picking just comments how's the acess to the chimmey so may check your chimmey base upon yearly cleaning and servicing ,just being honest ,here,s the one the resides at my home peace and good luck clammy ps here's abuderus pic also

    I totally agree with Clammy.

Sloppy electrical, no backflow, expansion tank support is questionable as is its connection location to the system, no low water cut off, etc,..

Is that a honeywell aquastat in the supply piping on a logomatic controlled system?

Clammy, why is your expansion tank piped to what is billed as a debris collection point? Are there any unions to remove that prv? Why is the Munchkin relief not piped/tubed down to floor level? I'm not saying the first post was world class, but let he who is without sin..yada yada yada

Here are some more pictures. If you guys wouldn't mind. I would love some suggestions an what needs to be corrected so the system runs right and I have no issues in the future. Also, what would be a good mixing valve to have installed.

I am not seeing a Spirovent or air scoop. It could be there, maybe picture angle is blocking it.
Also what happen to the damper on the exhaust piping.
I agree with the backflow, isolation valves on the circs, etc , but I would not make someone re-pipe it.

    Good luck .

I see the low water cut off now.

I would definately install a backflow preventer, support the expansion tank with a F&M clamp, install an overhead fire-o-matic switch, the oil line needs to be protected in a plastic sleeve, and in some localities then covered in concrete.

A spirovent would have been nice. A mixing valve would have been too (it would allow you to store your water hot enough to kill Legionella but still distribute at a safe temperature.

There are things that need to be done to satisfy codes (I'm not sure where you live but im looking at it from a Mass perspective) which I've listed, then there are things that could be done to make it better like the spirovent isolation vavles on the circs, both sides of the feeder, and expansion tank.

    Hi Norm,

Thank you very much for your reply. I live in NY. Where do you install the spirovent and what mixing valve would you recommend?

A spirovent should be installed in bwetween the boilerand the circulators in your picture.

I like to use the honeywell thermostatic mixing valves, and while your at it, install a temperature guage after the mix outlet to make adjusting the temperature a snap.
