If You are so INCLINED...can over-pitching cause Water Hammer?

if that's the main in the crawl space, check to see if there is too much water in the boiler. This will flood that main, causing banging.

    Is too much too much?

I have a one pipe steam system (gorton) and am wondering if a radiator has too much incline, can this be the cause of a water hammer? Pipes are well insulated, and this radiator is at the long end of the main...I recently removed all the radiators and stripped/repainted them (whew!) and reinstalled...THANK YOU for your suggestions!

If there's sludge inside the radiator,

which there often is, over-pitching the radiator can cause it to shift and form a pile, behind which water will collect and hammer when steam arrives. You need just 1" in 10' when pitching a radiator. That's not much.
