Furnace burner cycles every 5 minutes

Sorry about the reference. I have lived in my house for 8 years. My thermostat has been changed twice. First time when I moved in and had a new boiler installed, and the 2nd time about 3 years ago. (Switched to a programable)
I have a hot water boiler with standing radiators throughout the house except for fin tube type baseboard radiators in one room which was an add on years before I bought the house. Always having my washer and dryer in the same area as the boiler is how I noticed the increased temperature change. The only other modification made to the system was the installation of a new circulator pump installed in early fall. It began making an unusual sound at the end of last heating season and I was advised to replace it. Any advice? Pam

Furnace burner igniting every 5 minutes
Hey Fellas,
Recently I noticed that the area around my furnace (hot water boiler) was exceptionally warm. At first I thought the heating season was upon us. However, I also noticed that the furnace burner was shutting down and relighting again @ 5 minutes later. This constant cycling pattern could explain the excessive heat around the furnace. This current operation of the furnace is not typical of years past. My question is what causes this to happen. I would like a little information before consulting a contractor.0 -
please, please don't call your
Pam, please don't call your boiler a furance! We wetheads cringed when people call them the 'f' word.
Back to your problem, how long (how many winter seasons) have you lived there to know any change(s) been made? Have the thermostat been replaced and the same is not set to your exsiting system properly? Now next question, is your system hot water or steam? Please enlighten us wallies..0 -
sounds like....
Sounds like the pump may not be working and the boiler is cycling on the operating limit. As my auto mechanic once said, just because it's new, doesn't mean it works. Try feeling the pipes not directly about the boiler but horizonally away a few feet to see if they're hot. There may be a bad wiring connection or the service guy might have left a valve closed. You should have at least a year warranty.

check chimney
boilers come with thermal saftey switchs now a days you may want to have your flue pipe and chimney checked to make sure this is not the cause of cycling.iwould address this sooner then latter as there could be health issues.0 -
And please don't call your furnace a furance. ( sorry, couldn't resist)0
