Cast iron radiator repair (if any)

I have an old (>75 years) 15 row cast iron steam radiator with a hairline crack in the upper end-portion that is allowing a bypass of the thermostatic control valve I had installed last year (making temperature control impossible).

As I know cast iron radiators are hard to come by and expensive, is there any reliable way to patch the small 2" hairline crack (i.e., via JB Weld, etc.)?

It is possible to weld cast iron. A good welder will be able to do it.

Since it is a steam radiator, you have a good chance to repair it. You can try to use JB Weld. If you can, use an angle grinder to clean that area and even upon up the crack if you can.
