location of main vents

for what it is worth:
1) If the current location has sufficient venting to evacuate the supply mains and the condensate main ahead of it (say it is a 2" main and 1" return), within a reasonable amount of time (a few minutes or less), you are probably fine.
I would just make sure that those "return-end" vents are high enough above the main and back from the last down-turning elbow to avoid a slug of condensate being forced up into the vent.
Make sure the vents then are sized for the main and the volume of the return portion. If 1" return, it will not add too much time to the vent.
2) The "downside" of that arrangement, if you can call it a downside, is that you will warm up your return with steam, a condition that does you no real good. Then again, it is probably a smaller pipe and as stated will not add much.
My $0.02
I will stand by for other opinions.

I have just installed a new Burnham In7. The old main vents are located at the end of the returns, within 5ft of the boiler. My last take off is about 30ft away. Is it worth moving the mains? I would have to cut the pipe and fit a tee in for the vent. What do you all think?
