setback with steam heat

I was wondering if there have been any scientific tests made to determine the saving realized when using a setback thermostat with steam heat.

From my own personal experience it feels as though it takes more that 6 hours for the house to heat up evenly after the temperature was lowered for the night. Parts of the house feel cold even after the thermostat’s call for heat has been satisfied.

I think the body can still feel very slight temperature differences until the walls, floors and furniture heat up to room temperature. They would still be absorbing heat from the air and your body.

I have since left the heat at the same temperature all the time, except for the early winter and late spring where I do set back the thermostat at night.

Any thoughts or studies done?
