    Munchkin bioler

I have a 2 year old Munchkin 199 boiler, and I love it. However, twice once last year and again last night the boiler faulted and I had to re-set the unit. Prior to that, the boiler was functioning great. I am running a 60 gal Ultra, both a base board heat and a recently installed air handler. Any thoughts on what maybe happing, I live in Alaska and I need reliable heat.

    Munchkin

Yes my 3 year old munchkin gave me fits too. As I installed it all by myself it took a few days to get it going. After cleaning it last winter the problems seem to have went away.So far so good as this is in a vacation home 450 miles away and a neighbor checks on things evry ten days or so. Look up past treads as there is a wealt of info on munchkin and the manufactor reps have been awesome.

    What was the fault code?

most often removing and cleaning the flame rod cleans up nuisence lock outs.

Has the unit been opened and cleaned, serviced, and re-checked with a combustion analyzer?

Make sure the condensate drain fitting is clear at the bottom of the unit. The boiler needs to be level so the condensate can flow to that drain hole, by the way.

Mod cons neen more care and maintenance then old cast iron boilers, regardless of the brand.

    Munchkins and lockouts

You must clean the heat exchanger, condensate trap, drain etc. every year for reliability. Clean flame rod/electrode. Clean burner head flange plate that mates to heat exchanger plate along w/ nuts that fasten to it. ie sand paper the suface lightly of these for good ground surface as this is how the flame current travels to ground fromr inside burner chamber. Next, you may also have a problem w/ outdoor sensor as they have had some failures, I have replaced 2 in last several months, they just fail! NOTE: this really is not a homeowner job the 1st time at least, it would be best to have a qualified person at least do it once and you learn from it. Also, you should have a replacement burner gasket & rear target wall as they are or will probably be damaged from condensate backup and or removal during service. Good luck, Tim

Does the boiler have vision I control or the old control with blinking lights? If it's not vision I troubleshooting is harder. It may be the fan speed is to low

I am still dealing with my 2-3 year old Munchkin 199K btus residential boiler. My plumber says it is not cycling into the high mode. On the boiler I have brand new 150 K btu air handler, baseboards and a water store unit. The unit is just not heating the water hot enough when it is on a load. We have checked to see if the gas meter valve is open. Last year I replaced the blower unit? Any suggestion what else we should be doing??

    Could be the outdoor sensor

They have had some issues with failing sensors and they need replacing when they don't ramp up. This is not always, but is an issue sometimes.

    munchkin

Has any maintaince been performed on this boiler?? when you can answer this question then suggestions can be made. Is the book that came with your unit there and if you read this book it gives all kinds of info and the factory is just a call away.I could go on but then again some answers not just questions help us help you.

Yes the unit was fully serviced that how we determined that it was not ramping up to it full potential.

    Not ramping up

Ok I'm going out on a limb here. If you have ODR (outdoor reset) that can be why your boiler is not ramping all the way to the top. Your heating curve may be off and quite possibly is. Again I will say go thru your manuals that came with the boiler and if you have the vision control on your system that manual contains even more info. Read these manuals if you have them, if not get them from HTP website and or call them tell them exactly whats going on, they are there to help.

munchkin 199M ASME vibrating with code F09

We have a Munchkin 199 that woke us up this morning with a sound like a freight train. I believe it is the induce draft motor assembly, but have read it could just be the air/gas combination causing the vibration. We have been told this is an expensive part and are wondering why it would be failing after 2 years. According to one of the heat guys in our area (alaska), a lot of munchkins have been failing this winter. Any ideas?

There was an error rendering this rich post.
