RLS in a 6-80 Weil. Here goes.
1. The RLS extended below the bottom of the Weil. Had to hammer out the edge of the concrete pad to hang the burner.
2. The Siemens UV Control has no diagnostic capability -except for stopping the cycle dial at point of failure. To read scanner voltage, you need to rig your own meter in the scanner circuit. Rather primitive when compared to MH & Fireye offerings.
3. Riello still has not settled on which nozzles work best. A Riello Guru finally came to town. 3 different nozzles later, he seems to have found the best selection.
4. We find the oil firing assembly access rather clumsy. Prefer almost anyone else's.
5. The miniaturization of all components precludes substiturion in a pinch. Took 5 days to get a motor contactor from Hingham. Not Jimmy's fault.
6. When you remove the access cover - watch the securing screw fall out & roll to any inaccessible corner of the boiler room.
7. The wiring diagrams are from the dark ages. Bring your magnifying glass. Henry Ford designed the wiring colors. Any color you want. As long as it is black.
See your Chiropractor prior to wiring. Multiple levels of wiring terminals at angles only an Olympic Gymnast could appreciate.
That said - the rest of the story.
1. The separate oil pump drive motor (under the motorcycle slick cover) is a plus.
2. True lo-hi-lo gas on a lower input burner.
3. Remarkably quiet on both fuels. Power Flame would kill for gas combustion that quiet.
4. Compact gas train that you don't have to pipe across the boiler room or down the entire side of the boiler.
5. The gorgeous red chassis that no tech can walk away from w/o running a clean rag across. Even if he was cussing it a few minutes before.
Conclusion. For low inputs. Go w/ Power Flame (forgive me). Stay away from the G/P S-4. You'll never get the sucker to stop rattling. For inputs 7 GPH & up - go w/ Webster. They've fixed their gas pilots. If you want quiet, beautiful, higher price, & non-standard everything - do the RLS.
Oops. Almost forgot. Carlin has a honey w/ their 702 G/O. Slick. Tracks w/ same inputs as their straight oil 702 CRD. Only negative. Carlin's oil pieces are too efficient. Need to add air to drop CO2 below 14+%. Reduces potential gas numbers. However, unlike most burners in that range, Carlin has a Butterfly Valve for gas input adjustment. Nice piece. And. The price is right.
