Is anyone aware of an energy audit program or website where I can compare operating costs on two different oil fired hydronic systems.
We have a customer which we would like to show how fast of a payback he can get on replacing a dry base oil fired summer-winter boiler firing @ 1.75 gallons. With a Buderus boiler firing .60 gallons with a logamatic and a hot-water maker.0 -

NORA
is working on a web based "calculator" to do just that. Not currently functional unfortunately.Based on anecdotal evidence you would be safe to say 25% and could see much more

Hey Alan?
Here in nortehrn VT we have a very small population burning a lot of wood.
Data suggests we have over 23,000 wood burners in the area. With split and delivered (but not stacked) wood going for ~$200 a cord, oil - @ $2.90 a gallon sems like a good deal.
Know of any websites that do wood to oil/LP comparisons that easily?
Hang on. I think I just found one: http://www.eia.doe.gov/neic/experts/heatcalc.xls

Doesn't look that way to me...
Looking at the wood calc posted below, using the numbers from my last wood and oil purchases (150 per cord, not delivered (I pick up) and 3.04 for oil) and even tweaking the efficiency numbers way up for my boiler and way down for my woodstove, It still appears that I pay about three times as much for oil as for wood btu for btu...
And I'm right in your neck of the woods, by the way... Just on the other side of the cold hollow mountains...0
