wiring a steam boiler

Hey Steve, here's a basic diagram for a steam oil fired boiler. In Mass you have to be a licensed oil burner tech or electrician to do this install, if you're not confident please hire a skilled tradesman.

Regards Monty.

    wiring

My daughter has a Weil-McLain steam boiler (very old). She called me to say the glass gauge was leaking. I replaced the gaskets, but discovered that there is no low water cutoff installed. Either it was removed by the previous homeowner or it was never installed.Regardless, I will be installing one and I'm wondering what the exact wiring sequence should be.There's a PressurTrol, the Low-water, the fire-o-matic on the ceiling and the primary control on the oil burner.Any help would be appreciated
  • Low water????

What do you mean by "the Low-water"? Do you mean that there is a low water control,or is that part of your question?

thanks for the pic........yes, i feel very confident, but i'm a bit unsure about the abbreviations. There is not a high limit control. What is c.s.,.....t.s.,.....and s.s?

there currently is no LWCO installed. That is what I will be installing.

Steve, cs is customer service switch,ts is thermal safety switch, and ss is service switch which is normally located on the boiler. Your high limit control is your pressuretrol.

  • Ok

Then Monty's diagram would be right on point, as long as you install a LWCO such as the #67 McDonnell & Miller.

When you buy the LWCO, it will also have a complete diagram with it, showing how that particular LWCO should integrate to your control system.

Install that LWCO ASAP. It could be a life saver.

    Good Luck,
