Indirect DHW off steam boiler
I should have said we installed the boiler and indirect a few months ago . The return pipes were about 100 years old and far past their usefulness . There were repair couplings all over the place . One pipe sprung a leak last week , so we went back and changed all the return piping .

Is it worthwhile?
Just replaced my steam boiler. Hopefully won't have to replace my HW heater for a while yet, but when I do I want to have a plan in place. The boiler is atmospheric gas and--according to spec--about 81% AFUE. Is it worth it to try to add indirect DHW to a setup like this?

worthwhile to add an indirect to a steam boiler . Faster recovery time than a gas heater and it's more efficient to have the boiler producing the hot water ( compared to that gas heater ) .
We've installed only a handful of indirects on steam systems so far . We were back to this job last week to replace the return pipes , after a few months of operation . The customer absolutely loves the endless supply of hot water . If we had the time , we woulda reworked the header ,but this was a one day job for 3 of us , so .........0 -
Why?
Why did you have to come back and replace the return pipes after just a few months?0
