steam - zone valves

You can remove the motor and manually pull out the stem and secure it. That will leave it open. As to the traps, the A dimension becomes a B dimension with traps and you need a lot more height to get that condensate back to the boiler. If the pressure is low enough (vaporstat) you may be all right, but traps are designed to dump into a pressure free environment. IF you don't have enough height, the system will let you know ASAP...it won't work

    motorized zone valves-steam heat

residential steam boiler-two motorized zone valves[honeywell 24 volt Q601B-3X1]hard to read could be wrong-main zone had previously failed in the open position and we left it that way-now smaller zone has failed in the closed position-is there a way to manually open valve and then wire boiler as one zone? the system has 3 returns which have air vents and traps - someone previouly removed condensate pump, making wet gravity returns, should I remove the traps or just leave them alone- 'A' measurement at boiler is good Thanks,Ed
