OK, i've read through a lot of posts as well as hot topics and i have more questions....
It seems like i made some mistakes with my vent choices last year..i bought adjustable vents by heat-timer for all 4 bedrooms. I did this so i could balance the heat in each room because some rooms got hotter than others. It now occured to me that the radiators all all different sizes in each room. So, is it OK to use the adjustables in a 1 pipe system, or do i need to replace them?
next question, pipe insulation. The main pipes in my basement are not insulated, even the runoffs to the radiators are bare. my basement is split into three areas: Finished playroom, Laundry room, unfinished storage and worksop area. the biggest is the unfinished area, then the playroom and then the laundry room. i plan to insulate the pipes, but, i dont want to lose ALL the heat that the mains give lest the playroom be cold. Is it OK to leave portions of the mains uninsulated? I figured the frist 10 feet or so of each man would do...on the same note, where's the cheapest place to order the insulation from? I checked my local Home Depot and they were charging almost 10.00 per section of fiberglass pipe insulation. that wold end up costing me a few hiundred bucks just for the materials...
Main vents - i installed a pair of 3/4" main vents last year because the previous owners had radiator sized vents on the mains. they had 3/4" stems going up about 10-12" from the main pipe, reduced to fit a radiator sized vent...that was tossed for a full 3/4" vent, but, the supply house i went to only had one size main vent, is there a way to detemine the right vent size, or can you use adjustables on the mains, and then the next thing is, WHere's the best place to order or buy vents from online? Finally, what are the best type and brand of radiator vents to get?
thanks a million
